The Little Things

I recognize I am very immature in a lot of ways, but I do appreciate the little things in life. I went crazy the other night after A. and Z.'s swimming lesson. Outside the rec center, I spotted a hummingbird among the flowers in the beautiful garden near the entrance. I cannot remember how long it has been since I've seen one. I felt like a child full of wonder and happiness at seeing such a funny little creature. I couldn't contain my excitement, and people were staring at me, but I didn't even care. Z. was right there with me jumping up and down and pointing like a crazy person. A. was trying to identify the type of flower that attracted it so we could plant some in our yard. (In some ways, A. is more mature than I am!) I think a sighting like this one is a gift. One I won't soon forget.

Columbine,Nasturtium,Petunia, and if you have room for a climbing vine area Trumpet vines [Bignonia tagliabuana] are beautiful and are also one of MY favs! Fence lines are great for these! I always get the giggles when I hear,,,or see ... my first buzz bomber of the year!

Thanks, Cheesy! I love Columbines. I had to control myself at Costco today. They have Gerbera Daisies in 6-packs. I have to save our $ for Disneyland next weekend. (No impulse buys!) I'd much rather buy flowers than spend money on useless crap at Disneyland, but our kids will love it.

Hey Scott! Pants and I may "Thelma and Louise it" to Oregon (Cannon Beach to be exact.) We only have one full day on Tues. to work with. I think it will only be about 3 and a half hours to drive down. We'd leave early, get there and meditate on the beach for a bit, have lunch and come back home. Wanna meet us for lunch? Let me know!

We didn't know we were actually going to go to Cannon Beach until Sun. We were just going to go to Westport, WA, but I decided I really wanted to show Pants our inspiration for moving to the Pacific Northwest.

Hope you and your sister are having fun in CA!

Cheesy- I can tell that you are coming down with a 24-hour flu and you should stay home, er go to the beach to get cured. :)

Dear, I've spent most of my adult life realising that the ONLY things worth being excited over are the little things.

As for attracting the little buggers, I found the easiest method (tho not as pretty as flowers) is a store-bought glass and plastic feeder; I mix sugar into boiling water, 1 cup sugar to four cups water, let it cool down good and watch the fun begin. Every year we have more and more around the feeders!

Thanks for the visit, Irrelephant! I will try your recipe. I saw a feeder at the local hardware store a while back. I will make that purchase along with all of my usual pepper, tomato, cilantro and carrot seedlings. Gotta get through the whole Disneyland visit this weekend and then I can start my planting.
