Among the Little People Again

I am, once again, employed as a teacher in a local (four blocks from home!) childcare center. It is an Intergenerational Learning Center located inside a nursing home. So I get the best of both the young and elderly. It is a place that has warmed my heart. I love helping society's most vulnerable people and seeing them at their best (and sometimes worst.) The people I work with are kind, intelligent and caring. I think I am really going to like it there. The Director is encouraging me to finish my degree and has vowed to help me find funding through the State. Thanks to my friend (neighbor, L. 3 houses down!) I don't have to worry about A. and Z., and balancing work and family. She's graciously decided to step-in and be "Momma" for A. and Z. when I am not able to be home. Life is good all around. I have a lot to be thankful for!

Congrats! I've never heard of an intergenerational center. That sounds pretty darn cool. Do the little fold fraternize with their elders?

Congratulations! It sounds perfect having the little ones share a space with the elderly. I bet they enjoy each other a lot.

Maggie- We do get together with our "elder friends" a few times a week for sing-alongs and projects. It is really a sweet sight!

Meno- It is great to be able to walk and not have to worry about parking and such!

Jill- Most of the kids love to give them hugs and shake hands. Some are a bit intimidated by the wheelchairs, oxygen tubes and things like that and stand back when we get together. I can't blame them. It is a bit much for even the elderly people to manage as well!

Pants- So far so good! Nice people (big and little.) And a lot of fun with the group we have. They are mostly boys who crack me up!

EXCELLENT!!! I miss the "wiser in years" home that was on my last route... They were such joys! The mixing of ages sounds delightful!!

Cheesy- It is so funny to see how much the children enjoy the attention from the older people and the older folks love to watch the little ones too!
