Dungeness Bay

So we've lived in this great city for almost a year now and one of our favorite things to do is to look at the map of the surrounding area and find places to explore. I recently found a funny spit of land to the north, right on the Strait of Juan de Fuca. I pointed it out, found a route on the map and we decided to go.

We drove to the trailhead and walked the path down to the spit.

The beauty of the area was breathtaking. The sound of the crashing waves, the smell of the cedar trees and being with the the people who mean the most to me. It was amazing.

We will go back to hike the 5 miles to the lighthouse at the end of the spit. Someday.

I have been there, and it is beautiful. Were there lots of birds?

There were some birds, Meno. Lots of bird watchers with very powerful telescopes too! That's my kind of hike (flat and easy! ;)

I MISS the west coast. Maine is a close substitute, but haven't been there either in a coon's age.

Very nice. Gorgeous scenery.

The first pic makes me feel dizzy for some reason.

Wow. I never went there. But this puts me in mind of a little story. I'll post it up tomorrow.
Beautiful.

Bob- Thanks for stopping by! Stucco and I honeymooned in Maine. (Bar Harbor to be exact) It was beautiful. We knew from that trip on that we wanted to be coastal, and further to the North. We like damp, cooler climates!

Hammer- Thanks. Stucco took the pics from the top of the cliff. We had to hike a short, steep hill on the trail to get to the spit of land. It made me dizzy too!

Maggie- Can't wait to read the story (you have such great ones!)

Ahhhhh....I swear, I've had a reoccurring dream all my life of standing on a high place on the west coast while the sun sets, and I can see for miles and miles down the shore until it tapers off...there it is.

Ocean. It's so hard to remember that it does exist outside of your heart when you're living in the desert.

Juan de Fuca? I think I've read that somewhere recently... ;-)

I've had that same dream, Pants! It is wonderful to live the dream.

We'll take you there next visit :)

I love staring at a map and just picking a place to go. That's how I used to decide where to go in England. Scan a map and pick places like "Stow in the Wold" and "Upper Slaughter" and "Lower Slaughter"

Sigh. I could do with some ocean. Might be time for a roadtrip....
